kittlelittle said: I'm studying Tarot by going one card at a time. Looking up every definition and interpretation, and writing my understanding of it into a journal. That's my approach but I was wondering if you had any tips?

That’s close to what I did! The 2 other things I would suggest are

  1. If a card meaning reminds you of something, someone or a memory, write that down, too.
  2. as you do readings, go back through your journal and write in situations that you remember. Like, if the Queen of Wands was particularly memorable in a certain reading, write that down in your journal. My Queen of Wands entry has a story about a time when it came up for me reversed, and I told the person that the cards said she was ‘doing too much at once’; I ended up finding out she had been texting while driving and got into a minor accident because of it.

Hope this helps you on your journey! Oh also thank you for sending your question in, and happy shuffling :)

What an awesome post.

A quick and dirty chart to tarot cards and their common meanings. Be open to different interpretations of these words. Researching deeper into the meaning of each card is recommended if things are still unclear, or these definitions aren’t jiving with you.

Picked up some goodies at the #mbsfestival today

I went to the Mind Body Spirit Festival in Sydney today, this is just a small part of what I brought home. The Secret Language of Animals oracleThe Bohemian Animal TarotThe Messenger Oracle (signed) by Ravynne Phelan as well as two of her prints (and I got a hug from her, so I feel extra special)I also picked up 2 large art prints by Toni Carmine Salerno who is the creator behind the Gaia Oracle which I absolutely love. Some crystals, books, mediation cd’s & herbal tea’s, I went a little crazy & spent too much money but I was so so happy I was grinning like the Chesire cat when I finally got home.

SOO….As you guys probably know, I recently got the Oracle of Visions! Unfortunately, the book that comes with the deck doesn’t have spreads in it, soo…I guess that’s on me!

Now, this spread can be used with decks other than the Oracle of Visions, and of course if you’d like to use a tarot deck, feel free! (You can also use majors only decks or isolate the majors from your deck to do this)

This is the Masks of the Jester Spread. Ciro Marchetti certainly loves his jesters and they can be found throughout the deck, and so I kind of took the theme and ran with it.

Jesters are well known now for their ability to speak truths that the people they entertain cannot. The Jester can point out their ruler’s flaws and it’s their low status, not any nobility or power, that protects them in this.

The Jester as Truth is represented in Card One. Deal this card face down before lying the other two on top (you can place them face up or down, according to your preference). If you want to know what your Truth is — reveal this card.

Card Two and Card Three represent their masks. Because Jesters are also known for their mockery, tricks, and illusions. These cards show you how you’re perceiving the truth, but not the truth itself. They will reflect your beliefs back to you, but what you believe may be in conflict with the truth that’s underneath the surface.

These cards aren’t necessarily lies — but if you remove the masks, you see the Truth of the Jester behind them

[now is a good time is a read my post on low concept spreads, if you haven’t already! i mean i’m also kind of tipsy right now and it may not make sense for THAT reason too but…

Creativity, personal vision, new life, cycles, evolution & progression. Patterns, fate, self realization, travel, luck, destiny, turning point & rotation. Achieving victory, reaching your goal, winning, being successful, dominating, coming out on top & beating the competition. Using your will, being determined to succeed, focusing your intent, rising above temptation, letting nothing distract you, sustaining an effort, concentrating your energies & fixing on a goal. Asserting yourself, being ego-focused, establishing an identify, knowing who you are, feeling self-confident, having faith in yourself & looking out for your interests. Achieving hard control, mastering emotions, curbing impulses, maintaining discipline, holding in anger, getting your way, assuming the reins of power & showing authorityThe Chariot says:"Just do it, and go, go, go! Once you know your life direction, do not stop. You must move swiftly if you want to achieve success in your life. There is no going back once you are on your way. My momentum will carry you to victory." - Around the Tarot in 78 DaysNotes: The last time The Chariot was my daily draw card, I lost my job. Ugh, not a nice memory at all. I’m hoping today won’t turn out anything like it did then, but may have more to do with me sorting everything out to find a new place & move into a new home. I’ve only just started putting some serious thought into it, but if I do move house it needs to happen withing the next 2 - 4 weeks. A big change.* The Chariot is also my year card this year.
